That's odd, because I distinctly remember Bob Costas saying that Norway won gold in curling...

Ah, I see! It's the women's team that that won. Congradulations 'n' stuff! :D I see that our women placed fourth. Our men...um...*coughs* moving on... :b

Over at The Washington Post, Michael Wilbon made a good point why the U.S. is having such success at the Winter Olympics this year as compared to past years (30 medals so far, previous U.S. high was 13): the Olympics have added a lot of new sports recently, and in most of these Americans are quite good (except curling, where the Brits are so much better). Combine that with one of the strongest teams our country has had in a long time and the usual home advantage the host country receives, and voila!

Fortunately, it's now looking like cooler heads are prevailing. Russia has withdrawn their threat to boycott the closing ceremonies and the Athens games. So has Korea. The Korean protest of the disqualification of Kim Dong-Sung was turned down by the court they brought it to, and the Russian demand for a duplicate gold medal to Irina Slutskaya was denied.

I suppose we could put this in perspective. At the beginning of the games we were worried that Salt Lake City would be a target for terrorists. Now, toward the end of the games we're most worried about the Russians' hurt feelings. I suppose we really shouldn't complain about that one. :)
