WHEN POLITICS BECOMES PERSONAL

"Heston announces again that he is suffering from Alzheimer's"

One criticism of conservatives is they are 'mean-spirited'. Liberals claim they are not compassionate enough and have no sympathy for the poor, the destitute, or the infirmed. One of the most vocal communities is Hollywood. And one of the most vocal within that community is Ms. Barbara Streisand.

The Drudge Report is quoting former Bush speechwriter David Frum from his book, "THE RIGHT MAN" regarding details of his showdown with citizen Streisand. After learning that he was a speech writer for President Bush, she is reported to have wrinkled her nose, squinting her eyes, pursing her lips, and letting out a long Valley-Girl "Euw-w-w-w-w-w-w-w".

Ms. Streisand challenged Frum on the Bush environmental policy during a heated argument about Global Warming at a gathering on the eve of the Kyoto repudiation.

Streisand: "So tell me: Why did Bush flip-flop on emissions standards? I know why he did it. It was because of all the campaign contributions he got from Enron."

Steisand continued, "The snows on top of Mount Kilimanjaro are melting. There's no disagreement about that."

Frum: "Look, I don't know about that. I'm no kind of expert on climate change. But, Miss Streisand, I strongly suspect that neither are you. For you, this is religion, not science."

Streisand looked at Frum with utter revulsion. "I know what I'm talking about. I give a lot of money to environmental causes," she huffed and left Frum standing.

There are plenty of these examples. In adding just one more to the stack though, George Clooney, sets himself apart. While accepting an award from the National Board of Review last week, he said that "Charlton Heston announced again today that he is suffering from Alzheimer's."

When asked if he might have gone too far, Clooney replied, "I don't care. Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association; he deserves whatever anyone says about him."
