Hi James,
I am returning to research after a year or so away,so.....
I found in Taylor County records: Robert Harrison Cleveland b.circa 1835 in GA and d.1889 in Taylor County, GA, from Typhoid Fever. Robert Harrison Cleveland was the son of Absalom Carter Cleveland b.circa 1811 in Crawford County, GA and d.circa 1858 in GA, and Lucinda D. Harp b.17 October, 1833 in Upson County, GA. I found no evidence of any brothers to Robert Harrison, only 3 sisters, Fannie L. Cleveland, Mattie V. Cleveland and Emma E. Cleveland.
Absalom Carter Cleveland is reportedly the son of William Cleveland b 8 April 1766 in Culpepper County, VA, who married Rhoda Wright in Crawford County, GA, 4 August, 1865.I have no siblings for Absalom Carter Cleveland, but there may have been siblings.
William Cleveland, above, is reportedly the son of Jacob Cleveland, b. 6 May, 1729, in Culpepper County, VA and died 13 June 1799, in Elberton, GA Elbert County, who married Mildred White (Big Millie). The rest you probably already know.
I have been trying to make a definite connection between William Robert "Bob" Cleveland, born 1870 in Taylor County, (my deceased father-in-law), to other Clevelands who had come to GA. His death certificate lists his father as George and his mother's maiden name as Bland. I have found no George Clevelands, however I found the Robert Harrison Cleveland mentioned above. Robert Harrison Cleveland married Tansy Ann Matilda Brand in Macon County, GA 14 January, 1866. They had three daughters and a son. Their son was born 23 April 1870, but 1880 census records list his name Robert M., or possibly Robert W.. The 1880 census record is the last mention of this son. He just seems to vanish.
In the 1850 census, there is a William R. Clevelan (38), wife Sara (33), children Susan J. (14), James T. (12), Wiley B. (10), Mary A. (8), Allen L. (6), Effy Z. (4) and catharine (1) living in Meriwether County. Meriwether is very close to Crawford and Taylor Counties.
Perhaps some of this might lead somewhere for you.
Kathryn
