>(try putting autobot stickers on
>a gobot sometime!)

That's heresy.

>on the other hand, any transforming
>toy is a transformer!

BLASPHEMY!

What a load of insulting bollocks!! "Any" transforming toy is ***NOT*** a Transformer! How can you say that?

That's as stupid as saying:
* Any hamburger is MacDonalds
* Any language that uses the Roman alphabet is Romantic
* Any automobile is a sportscar
* Any cartoon is anime (by the English definition of that word)
* Any Australian is a crocodile hunter
* Any toy is an action figure (would you count a Rubik's Cube as an action figure? I don't even count MacFarlane toys as action figures)
...I could go on...

The one thing that has made Transformers so successful for the last eighteen years is that it is NOT like other transforming robot toy lines. Other transforming robot toy lines have NOT endured as long as Transformers has. Even though Macross is making a comeback atm, it's not as large scale as Transformers -- being purely aimed at collectors, whereas Transformers has always been marketed at the wider toy market, not to mention the fact that Macross toys have *not* been in continuous production since its inception.

Neither has Gobots/Machine Robo -- in fact, those lines are DEAD now. The Tonka company has since been devoured by Hasbro.

No, Transformers is not like other transforming toy lines, as its test of time clearly illustrates. There are a number of factors -- of which the most significant have been the continually improving quality of the toys and the immense volume of mythos surrounding them.

And there is virtually no direct competition for Transformers in terms of transforming robot lines. Macross is only aimed at collectors, which constitute a noteable minority of the Transformers' consumer market, and virtually every other transforming robot line out there are bootlegs.

To say that "any" transforming robot line counts as a Transformer is an insult to the ongoing 18 years of Transformer history. And to say that even bootlegs can count is sheer heresy, as you're comparing Transformers to an ILLEGAL competitor.

Comparing Transformers with Macross is one thing, at least that is a legitimate competitor who is competing ethically by using their own original designs. Okay, Transformers began by copying other designs, but most of that was in house (Takara copying Takara) and Transformers taken from Takatoku designs were done so through legitimate licensing rights that Takara/Hasbro purchased.

Buying bootlegged Transformers may be a cheaper alternative in the short run, but ultimately the sales of any pirated goods will drive up the prices of the legitimate product, as companies have to compensate for loss of sales through piracy (which is technically a form of theft).

>(bootlegs and ceapies are good
>for boosting armies and make for exelent cannon
>fodder,ie; in the english comic only non entities were
>scrapped)

Hardly an ethical argument.

>Besides finding stuff like this in Sydney is hard
>enugh and not everyone can order from overseas all the
>time so please don't be so snooty to this ol'
>fart."mumblemumble gripegripe"
>

Stop driving the price of my toys up. ;p

*more mumblemumble gripegripe*
