If you are a total "Transformer purist" don't forget that only the name was original, the first two catalogs consisted of Diaclone ,microman ,beetras,macross,etc....
The third catalog consisted of only half originals, the transformers toyline itself had only begunat this time! ; )
The man responcible for the concept of transformers saw the line as a way to launch the items in the U.S, he himself commented that "If it is a robot that can change it's shape then it is a transformer and allows the children to expand their collecton with existing toys, it helps creative minds to expand their imagination"
As for gobots, remember hasbro owns tonka tonka had gobots hasbro release g2 gobots in transformers(nuff said)
MACHINE ROBO RESCUE to air in japan (well fancy that!)
As for the "bootlegs" you will have to go into the coptright laws about this issue, toys have a short copyright piriod, any item out of this piriod is then up for grabs,Any factory with the original molds can churn them out, however if I had a choice of ether the original or a cheap knock off I would rather buy the original,if the knock off is of good quality then I MIGHT buy it ether for spare parts or to CUSTOM MODIFY, after all to me that's half the fun.
The current line of bootlegs are also of transformers unavalable ether in australia or over the past ten years, (at the very least)they differ in size and colour and often only require a minor amount of tiding up easely acheved with a hobby knife and a screwdriver.
The box sets have been selling for up to $30 US and have heavily featured at the US BOTCON,(IF THEIR NOT COMPLAINING THEN NETHER AM I) ;p
As for driving up the price, Blame the economy and shiping, bootlegs of current ranges are seldom good enugh to undermine the original and only sell when original stock sells out.

Oh and "heresy,BLASPHEMY" are you by chance WORSHIPING A TOY! If by chance you have a shrine, CAN I SEE IT ^_^
