Subject: Light sabers vs. Beam sabers

I'm going to try and customize my own saber... if I can. My plan mainly involves taking a Darth Maul saber, removing the blades, and replacing it with purple blades like Mace Windu's. And it seems I'm not the only one with that idea...

On a slight side-topic, I was wondering if anyone familiar with Gundam/MegaMan X might know what the difference, if any, there is between a light saber and a beam saber. At first, they seem to be alike, but(and I don't know if Gundam and MMX ones work alike) beam sabers seem to have a bit more of a physical presence(i.e., it can stick out of the ground by the blade, for example, like a real sword). The beam stuff seems more versatile as well, as I've seen different blades formed by that(katana-style, spear, scythe...).

Just a curiousity for any geeks like me who care about such things ;P
