Thoughts (re: nitpicks) on DWG1#4:

* Pat Lee still can't draw humans right.
* Third page: the attempt at forced perspective on Optimus Prime in the fifth panel really sucked. It looks more like he has an overgrown leg.
* How many km is 52 miles? Btw, according to the 1998(?) Green Treaty, the US public sector (including the military) is supposed to be using the metric system. Anyway, I'll just presume it's about 52km. Their fault for using outdated units.
* 7th page: Prime still has really chunky legs. But the use of forced perspective on panel two is gooder than the previous attempt.
* 8th page was reasonably well drawn. Sunstreaker's hand looks bad (all even lengthed fingers) -- Lee still needs to learn how to draw hands.
* Page 9 looks good, but Wheeljack's "ears" are too small-- look how big they are on page 5. Make them large or make them small, I wish Lee would just decide which size he wants to draw them and stick to it.
* 10th page: Cityscape is drawn well. How far is eight miles? Let's presume it's 8km. Actually, it even looks more like it's 8km if you guess-timate the distance from the shoreline to the far-off trawler on the first panel.
* p13-14, double page fold out with Devastator rising from the waves. Devastator is very well drawn, but there's not enough water on him! Devvy is breaking out from the ocean waves, yet he's virtually DRY from waist up! We should be seeing a LOT more water rolling off him, similar to how the Nemesis looked when it lifted off the water. Yes, the Nemesis is a lot bigger than Devastator, but that's beside the point. Even if a human were to emerge from the water, they'd be utterly saturated. Devastator isn't! WHAT THE?!
* 15th page (I don't count the ad break as pages) -- no major complaints about the art here (though Sideswipe's head is red and Sunstreaker's right arm is white -- guh?!), but WHY is Superion flying in his combined gestalt robo mode? Surely it would be faster for all five Aerialbots to seperate and fly in their individual jet modes. Even with Prime, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker clinging onto three of the jets, they would have been lighter, more streamlined and hence FASTER than flying as a giant, heavy, blocky (and hence extremely air resistant) robot mode! And yet Prime has the gall to say "Faster Superion!"
* 16th-19th pages: depth perspective is improving here. I like the way Superion grabs Devastator's wrist and knocks out Devvie on the next page. Baby's crying, but where are the tears (or drool for that matter -- ever noticed that babies make a lot of drool when they cry?)? Hrmmm...
* p20: Battle analysis - Superion has grabbed Devastator's wrist and in the next panel we see him punching out Devastator. How is this possible? If you look at the first panel on p20, Superion's right fist is well out of reach from Devastator's head, yet in the second panel, Superion's right fist is extended, and Devastator is falling. One theory is that Superion, having grabbed Devastator's left wrist with his left hand, then proceeds to yank Devastator towards himself, and Superion may very well take a step forward, closing the space between his right hand and Devastator's head, hence delivering the punch. However because Superion has grabbed Devastator's wrist on the "inside" (ie: the side where the tendons would be, if Devvie was human -- some people call it the "soft" side or the "light" side) he would have most likely pulled Devastator left arm across himself (out of his way), so that Devastator would be facing Superion, then delivered a punch. Problems --> first of all, even if Superion did maintain the grapple on Devvie's left wrist and delivered a straight punch with his right arm over his left arm, Devastator still has his entire right arm (not to mention his legs) for which to counter Superion's punch, or even deliver his own attack/counterattack. Superion is exposing himself to danger by dragging Devastator's left arm outwards (ie: towards his back). Secondly, the second panel shows Superion's knuckles at an angle from Devastator's head, suggesting that it was a hooked punch, not a straight punch. This would be difficult (although not entirely possible) if Superion was maintaining the grapple. Either way, a straight punch would have been a more logical choice. In order to deliver a more effective hook from where he was situated, Superion may have had to release Devstator's left arm, so that Superion's own left arm would not become an obstacle -- this would have left Devastator with BOTH arms (not to mention both legs which Superion has utterly neglected) available to counter Superion with. Furthermore, even from Superion's initial wrist grab on the first panel, Devastator could have actually trapped Superion's arm turning his torso to face Superion whilst simultaneously rotating his forearm 180 degrees and downwards (to around Superion's solar plexus height). Superion would have to abort the grapple, which would work in Devastator's favour, no matter how he did it -- if Superion had released his wrist before Devastator could complete his arm and body rotation, then Superion would be retreating; advantage goes to Devastator. If Superion had released Devastator's wrist after Devvie completed his rotations, it would have been too late, because Devastator could ensnare Superion's left arm by pressing it up against Superion's body; advantage goes to Devastator. Even if we were to presume that Superion was able to successfully knock Devastator over with that punch, we see Devastator landing on his side (which is more defensive than landing on your back), yet in the fourth panel, we see Devastator TURN OVER on his back to look at Superion jumping on him, which totally leaves his chest exposed to Superion's stomp on the last panel. WHY did Devastator decide to turn over on his back???? If he wanted to look up, he could've just turned his head! And why didn't Devastator roll away?? Fortunately for Superion, Devastator is obviously a very stupid fighter.
* p21: Looks pretty cool -- especially Grimmie. But I'm still not comfortable with the fact that he's fighting for the Decepticons. Issue #4 still fails to provide fans with any convincing explanation as to why he's defected. The way Trailbreaker clocks Grimlock with that beam is cool. The only thing that looks bad on that page is the last panel -- don't like the look of Megatron's face. He looks more like he's yawning rather than screaming.
* 22nd page: looks pretty cool. I like how the missiles were drawn to be toy accurate (with no vapour trails and everything! The Decepticons are using spring loaded launchers!) :) Of course, I'm presuming that it is an intentional visual gag for collectors.
* 23rd page: again, no real complaints about the art here. The Key to Vector Sigma seems a bit small, no? Of course, that's presuming that it is the original key... could be something else that just happens to look like a miniature version of the key... riiiiight.
* 24th page: art is much improved here, especially with the use of forced perspective in the last panel.
* 25th page: dammit, Lee can't draw mouthes! Otherwise Devastator looks cool. Yawning (or yodeling, you pick), but the body looks cool.
* Last page: Why is Spike's index finger the same length as his middle finger? Oh yeah, Lee can't draw hands... :p

And that ends my bitching session about the Transformers comic for today. (:
