They are at least TRYING(with minimal effort, at least), to observe some continuity with this. But Laserbeak doesn't even have a, umm.... beak.

Because it's a different character. Some also weren't bothered by the fact that BM turned Primal into a cult member who wouldn't DARE question the orders of some big floating sphere even though no one knew where it came from.

I doubt it was as much "protect the copyright" as "bait the older fans". Hasbro's even stated they only keep using the names Optimus and Megatron as selling points because they're recognizable to us. Besides, didn't they change it to "Lazorbeak"?

That was more towards Toy Fair overall, all companies. Odds are I'll buy a good chunk of Armada, or at least what money and shelf room will allow. The 2 leaders are definite. Scarscream, 99%(though since I own a G1 reissue, it won't break my heart if I don't get one). Red Alert, most definitely. The others, I haven't much bothered to look at.

For a line based on G1, there are a lot of new faces. I guess Bluestreak, Jazz, Sunstreaker, Hound, and Bumblebee aren't big enough fan hooks.

But don't think I'm not buying Laserbeak just yet. It may be a real cool toy upon seeing it in person. Besides, with this pile of spare parts I own, and Decepticon stickers from Delta Star, there does exist the possibility to "fix" it into a proper Laserbeak.
