Schools in the UK are recognising the benefits for all pupils when "dyslexia friendly" good practice is used to support learners who think faster than they currently read, write or spell.

The focus is on what happens in the mainstream classroom - which is where most dyslexic learners spend most of their time - with a particular emphasis on empowerment and differentiation through learning styles and preferences. This approach makes the learning of dyslexic pupils a whole class/school issue, rather than just the responsibility of a special needs specialist. The achievements of successful schools are being recognised through "kitemark" schemes which, in the UK, will soon have national recognition.

As an independent consultant and trainer I provide training for schools and government departments in the UK, Europe and Hong Kong and I will also be presenting a paper on the topic at the International Dyslexia Conference in the UK in 2004. I am available to deliver consultancy and training in this area and welcome enquiries from interested parties.
