The Reading Success Lab Reading Intervention Program Helps Readers Build Word Recognition Skills

The Reading Success Lab Skill Builder Module was designed to build reading skill levels for identified weaknesses. There are a number of Intervention Sets available, for use with the Skill Builder Module, targeted for different academic problems and weaknesses. Intervention Sets are specific word lists that the reader learns to recognize instantly by sight. Through 20 minutes of daily exercises the reader begins to master the content, with answers becoming automatic. Readers who practice with the Skill Builder Module Intervention Sets get better at word recognition, even words they have not yet practiced.

Often phonics-based exercises can be effective with readers who lack fundamental reading skills. The true dyslexic reader (estimated to be 5-7% of total population) will gain little benefit from phonics-based exercises. Sounding out words using phonics may result in slow and halting reading, which severely hampers fluent reading and reading comprehension. True dyslexic readers will often continue to have to sound out words, and thus never achieve fluent reading.
