Then we'll see about going on based on the response from Kellie's post. If anyone disagrees with this, please let me know. Thanks! Hoopla: The townspeople have become very excited and you can hear their voices. Screen doors were slamming and the women came out of their houses to see what was going on! Ernestine's mother seems to have forgotten about the potatoes on the stove. Luckily Ernestine took them off before the kitchen caught on fire! Derbies! I loved this line, " I'd like to see some man, just once, that had some sense a woman didn't have to pound into his head!" LOL!!!! Althought I can't figure out why she was so upset about the derbies! And all the men going crazy trying to get the 10th one free!!! Ab is the one selling them!! Ernestines father staggered out of the crowd - with 2 on his head and 3 in his arms! And he was rendered speechless when he saw his wife. All she said was it is dinner time. Ab's Return: Joe explains that Ab came in the night before - got the cannonball to stop. Joe ate his dinner with no complaints and even gave Ernestine's mom $12! Now that is a lot of money. I thought everyone was broke - so 1) where did the money for Derbies come from and 2) where did this $12 come from! Anyway, turns out that Ab is out of debt - he sold $500 worth of derbies! Leila: Ernestine went to Leilas to get information out of her. They went for a walk and Leila explained where Ab got the money to by the derbies. He had soldier friends lend him their pension certificates. The government honored them with gold and in turn he bought the derbies. Elopement: Along comes Ab in a buggy. He tells Leila to jump in and they will go to Hartville to be married! One thing I noted is that he says he has to hold the horses and for her to jump in. Sounds like Almanzo when he was breaking the new horses! Anyway, he tells Leila he has money in the bank and that all will be okay. She jumps in the buggy and off they go!
