In my opinion i think that showing the examples,that is trying to make it tangible would help her. On one occasioni helped a child with autism to count 2+0=2 by explaining to him that he should imagine it was a football match as when he saw 0 he insisted the answer is 0 so i told him of in the first half his favourite team scored 2 and in the second half they didnt score, does it mean they scored 2 or 0 and he insisted it was 2. that helped him for the east addition.
