Most parents of struggling readers overlook the possibility of vision therapy helping, because they just don't know about it. I would locate a developmental optometrist in your area and have your child assessed.

There's a lot more about the vision issues on my website. The Vision Piece of the Dyslexia Puzzle is a good place to start.

I've worked with a good number of struggling readers, and have found that vision problems of the sort that are rarely diagnosed by a family optometrist occur fairly frequently among them. This is absolutely the first avenue I would pursue. If your child does have a vision problem that can be addressed with vision therapy, everything else will go much easier later.
