Dear Paige, this has the "smell" of Ofsted regulations! I'm shocked at how it has been dealt with. I agree with the comment about tackling the dyslexia and to boost your son's motivation at all times. If he is only able to do a small amount of sums and get them correct, he is doing well.

After many years of teaching at a Comprehensive School, I now teach at a school for Dyslexic children. The key is to keeping your child positive about the maths. Let him play with numbers, keep things colourful and relevant to day to day things.

I suspect the general ignorance about processing speed in relation to dyslexics might be at the root of the teacher’s comments.

As a maths specialist, coming to grips with the impact of Dyslexia on students in the maths classroom, I can only hope that Dyslexia becomes part of the teacher training program, at all age levels. It saddens me that so many students left my classroom being failed by my inability to support and motivate students with dyslexia in the past.

Please help your child to celebrate the fact that his work is accurate and that he clearly understands the content of the subject.

I hope that the teacher will come around and understand that your son is trying his best.
