This isn't exactly what you're looking for, I suspect, but you did say all suggestions were welcome....

Any child struggling with various aspects of reading should be seen by a developmental optometrist to rule out vision problems that involve having difficulty getting both eyes working as a team, i.e., binocular vision issues.

Depending upon how poor his vision skills are, he could present symptoms in all sorts of ways. The page Find a Vision Therapy Provider on my site has a lot of useful information if you decide to follow up in this direction.
