Yes, mini white boards are great, but sometimes I feel that permanency is necessary for pupils to see their improvement. It is time-consuming, but I sometimes do the elicitation phase as long as it takes to make pupils exercise their expression. I ask a question, for example, "Why do people say this story is a fable?" and when pupils try to answer it, I accept any short answers, and incorporate them in the discussion, but try to make pupils refine their analysis. They go on jotting words in their books, phrases, then small sentences. I ask a question, then give them some thinking time. Then, call for answers. Then, another question, then more answers. I write on the board as well, so students see that I started from a very vague answer, for example "animals" and then go on extending it to "animals that talk" and so on.
