I assume these mini white boards are the same as the full size ones that use markers with special ink.
I don't think children should be using whiteboards at all. Or anybody for that matter. The chemicals used in the ink are toxic and highly aromatic - if you can smell it, its getting into your system. I don't know the specific solvents they use, but ALL such solvents are known to be harmful. They all primarily attack the nervous system and the liver, but can affect every system, so the range of effects is very wide.

Switch to chalk. The worst it can do is ruin your lungs if you intentionally inhale the dust for years.
