Hi RC,
PATIENCE is the key for helping your child and please keep your spirit up ...

I have heard about Davis Clay program for dyslexia, both of my nephew are dyslexia, they are using this methods for them.
There is a book call, "The gift of Dyslexia" by Davis, you can try to read this book first for a reference.

My son almost 5 years, highly possibility will have dyslexia as well (run in the family), and i am doing home schooling for him at home (i am a Montessorian, i am combining the Montessori methods (more in to the tactile and hearing) and adding some other Technic which are working together ).

From i know from my first nephew, he got severe dyslexia, exactly like what you are explained. He is in the university now, it is funny, because he can accept that he got dyslexia and never feel embarrassing and always ask me, "how you spell?" But that is because he got CONFIDENCE...
The second nephew is on the way, we just found out he got dyslexia recently, and it is more difficult, but again we must have PATIENCE to handle them and never lose COURAGE.

You should try to always keep his confidence stays on him, when he discourage, it will make him worse.
Please do not lose courage.
