Has your son been tested for dyslexia? My son is also a 7th grader and was just diagnosed with dyslexia in 6th grade. I recommend you view Susan Barton's website, brightsolutions.us. I am forever grateful to her for the help and guidance she has given me. Unfortunately, not all school recognize dyslexia. However there are steps you can take and Ms. Barton outlines those on her website. Meet with his teachers and discuss what can be done. Are they willing to read him his tests/assignments, is there a webpage the school uses to list assignments? Organization is part of dyslexia. The more you learn on dyslexia the more prepared you and your child will be. Also check out the book Overcoming Dyslexia by Sally Shaywitz. Best wishes.
