Public or private, the schools, by law must accommodate students with learning differences. An Ipad, extra time on tests, a test proctored by the teacher or a tutor, having class notes that the teacher takes copied for the student. All of these are reasonable requests for a child with a learning difference. I am dyslexic and so is my 9th grade son. He learns with visuals, verbal quizzes and by listening to books on tape. Without these tools, his notes are not very good which results in failed tests because he has only parts of the information t study.
If your child hasn't been formally tested, do have this done. The paperwork should then be shared with the teachers so they know what accommodations will help your child succeed. Good Luck. Keep advocating for your child!
