To know that X has friends who care about her is great.
Since N is an intelligent pupil,a one on one talk with her may help.
One suggestion I can think of is to move N to another seat.
Warn N that if you or any other teacher find out that X has been bullied, stern action - like suspension -will be taken against X. Of course any threat like this should be caried out. If you have no intention or no power to do such a thing do not use this method.
From what you say, I believe this bullying will cease - lets us hope it does.
