Dyslexic student’s minds are genetically different from general education students, with this there are advantages and disadvantages. On the disadvantage side, the education system in general wants everyone to become a “well rounded” student. However, dyslexic students are specialists, and not generalists.

What this means is that, as a general rule, dyslexic students are at a disadvantage from K-College. However, once in graduate school, dyslexic students have an extensive advantage, the ability to see problems in a way most cannot, to find out of the box solutions.

It is that ability that I used, at a young age, to use different colors to learn to read. What I find interesting is that we think in colors, yet we read in black and white. What you have discovered here is that certain dyslexic’s prefer the use of color’s to help to learn how to read better. Image if you could combine different colors, to take on different meanings, and to associate them with words. The Japanese language is particularly contusive to this line of research.

Keep trying different colors, and different sequences of colors, it will be very helpful for some of your dyslexic students. Do not worry about the long run success of your dyslexic students. If you can help make sure that they enter graduate school, everything will work out. Once it comes time to come up with that “original idea”, your dyslexic students will have an extreme advantage.
