You can expect this to keep happening until the problem is addressed. The simple fact is that this dyslexic student’s brain processes information differently than her general educational peers. All she wants is to be treated just like everyone other student.

To address this problem you have two options, first you can start back at the beginning of the students education, using a multi-sensory approach, and work your way forward. The other option is to give the student advanced college level reading material, and show her how to read this level of material. The second option is considerably harder on the student, but a lot faster and much more cost effective.

With the second option the dyslexic student will never win any speed-reading competition, but she will do an excellent job in reading comprehension. In addition, advanced reading and writing program can be learned in approximately 200 hours of private instruction, or two classes’ periods, in a full school year, in a public school.
