Hello, I have a 6y/o daughter whom has been diagnosed with dyslexia. She was in kindergarten this year, attended pre k last school year, and was having difficulties. Her problems seemed to get worse, and was experiencing great difficulties in learning her alphabets and sounds. Her physician stated she displayed signs of dyslexia, well when presenting that to the school they completly though ti was nuts. I requested her be tested, they refused and told me that they couldnt test for dyslexia until 2nd grade. I explained 2nd grade was gonna be to late. I kept demanding them to test, wrote a letter to the school board and finally after 2 months they decided to test her. I dont know what state u live in, but here in Texas, they have a Dyslexia Law, and a Dyslexia Handbook u might wanna check out for ur state. The school HAS to test if the student is showing below average progress. As far as the IQ, my daughters IQ was high, it slowly declined this year due to the material becoming harder and her not being able to recall information.....So if the IQ is low, dont let them tell you special education classes are the best choice, pursue the testing, because that is your childs right....Also if you would like a definite diagnosis for dyslexia, contact The Scottish Rites, they will do extensive testing to see what all is wrong. We was told to read more, and she would try so hard, but that was a extremly frustrating task for her. Good luck to your child and you!
