Alyssa, There is no right and wrong method. I suggest my method here and you make your choice. Some will agree and some may not agree. Let us all agree to defend the rights to ones opinion.

1.Yes, writing numbers backwards usually goes away by primary two or latest primary 3. There are many children who are not dyslexic who also exhibit this symptom. This should be the least of your worries.

2.This is something I don't agree with many who say 'just correct a few because otherwise the child will lose confidence in himself'. I correct every mistake I find and explain it in detail to the student. I go as far as telling them that the best teacher is mistakes. Make use of your mistakes to improve and do not make the same mistake again (this is usually not possible but I still say it.)

If you do not correct some mistakes, like you say, it will be ingrained in the mind and will be difficult to correct it in future. There is the possibility that he may argue with his teacher that "My mum says it is correct" - because you did not correct him.

Hope that helps.Use my lessons commencing March 2010 in my blog and let me know how he fares.
Regards,
Luqman Michel
