I know how overwhelming this can be. First I would explain to your son exactly what dyslexia is and that is something that he has that he can lear to work around. Alot of very successful and public prople have had it. My son loves the fact Walt Disney had dyslexia. Regarding school work, email his teachers and ask them to email you his assignments either weekly or daily. Still require him to write them down at school. Ask the teachers to notify you of any missing assignments (My motto is NO SURPRISES). I got a list of all the books they are using this year and bought a copy for home. This really reduces the stress of him forgetting something. I did this for my 7th grader with ADHD too.)
On a positive note your son will now know that there really is a reason why he is having a hard time. My son is in 3rd grade so the actual academic tips might be different. It is never easy, we had tears tonight because all the other kids in his class are faster than him at reading directions.
Good luck to you all.
