I believe (and I think this fits with the Davis Dyslexia approach) that the Chinese language avoids dyslexia because each character represents a symbol for the word. I have read that the Chinese language does not suffer from dyslexia because of this. On the other hand, phonics and the English language have many inconsistencies and the lack of pictures/symbols contribute to dyslexia. It is interesting to me that it is a cultural issue in some ways. So I think it is an English language issue. Maybe if our language was structured differently we would see this problem go away. Perhaps you could teach whole words with the Chinese character beside or underneath it.
