Subject: Insurance alternative finally approved in Wash.

In January, Washington became the last of the 50 states to approve a non-insurance alternative (or supplement) to conventional health insurance provided by a company called Care Entree (NASDAQ symbol: PCIS). This has implications for chiropractors, since the Care Entree system works by steering self-pay patients to physicians (MD's, DO's, DC's, alternative) in the PPO or PPO-like networks contracted with the company, which invented this new "self-managed care" industry five years ago. It must be catching on since the company's stock has soared.

Perhaps more interesting is that many physicians of all stripses are actually becoming reps for Care Entree, since it is such an attractive program, particularly for small employers who can't afford conventional health insurance benefits. Could it be that we're all sick of (from) the insurance billing process and the traditional managed care industry?
