Hi Dave,
Seems to me you have answered your own question...You loved this guy, you knew what he had been through and now he is at peace. You cried for yourself...losing a buddy and now you have found peace that he is at rest. Maybe I see it all wrong but that is the way I see it. Death is not an end but a begining (I think).
