Subject: Do we really appreciate what we have nowdays?

I really think true appreciation doesn't come until something is lost for a while and we have to go without, I think that's where true appreciation.
I'm not talking about health and family and major things in life, generally, most of us keep pretty good attitudes and thankfulness where that's concerned, I'm talking about "stuff".
Take for instance:
cable television-you know I've lived without cable television for I'd say two of the last three years, and I've been without it for months now, it's a luxury I don't forsee myself having again for quite some time. When people at work are talking about a tv show or something and I say I don't have cable, the looks about make me laugh.
Those blank "huh"? "what"? facial expressions. I don't know what it is to watch a short program or t.v. commercial.
Heck, when I'm over at Sandy's, I sit sometimes fascinated by just the simplest commercials and such. Others don't have televisions!
Credit-yeah, it's something I lost and yes, it hurts, it hurts bad. I wont be able for years to ever qualify for a loan or financing, I won't be able to pull out the plastic to pay for a gallon of gas or anything, and I deal with it,
it's hard, sometimes I feel bitter when I see others using theirs and I fought past my own mistakes just to have life and fate snatch it out of my hands for a very long time.
but I'm thankful that I once had it and have the remote possiblity of having a little down the road.
But I see others and how much it's a part of them and I just wonder how thankful they are for it. I wonder how they'd react if something happened to them and they'd have to go without it. They'd probably appreciate it more.
OR money-I have to be honest, it really gets on my nerves when I hear others talk about being broke and that ends up meaning their checking account is running short so they have to dip into their savings. That is NOT broke! I'd like them to see some of the dirt poor welfare patients that come into our office that make me take a long gulp when I think of my own complaints. Or even me, this week I'm surviving on a couple of dollars until next payday, I'll be lucky to pull three dollars to a small container of milk and some catfood, but I deal with it. I'm not saying people who have it better aren't thankful, but at the same time, I don't think people understand at all just how easy it would be to lose it. And how I don't think they'd appreciate it fully until they did.
Ok, so let's all now cut up our credit cards, empty our accounts, and cut off our cable tv!!
yes, I sound like an idiot, but it's what was on my mind tonight.
And yes, honestly, there's a part of me deep down that can get jealous, I think it's unfair sometimes, but what can I say, some are thankful, others aren't, but shouldn't be criticized for things that they are just used to having in life, I guess ever since I went to church and our guest minister who came back from Afghanistan told us what he saw people over there go through, I think people can be just a bunch of weiners over here sometimes for their complaints and I think we take a lot for granted.
And I'm certainly guilty as charged on that count many times as much as anyone.
Bill
