Apparently, when she was hospitalized, she was released due to insurance constraints rather than an improved condition. That could have certainly been a contributing factor in the whole situation.

I have known people with either PPD or psychotic depression who have the desire to take people with them, thinking it will spare the other person the pain of living in this world or from suffering from perceived sins or wrongdoings of the depressed person. Andrea Yates certainly seems to fit the bill here...
