My little brother lucked up in that area. He saw some of the beatings but he was so much younger than the rest of us (my older brother was 16, my sister 15 and I was 11 when he came along)that we had all gotten big enough to stop a lot of it. Especially my older brother. Once when Dad was trying to beat on Mom, my older brother came in and picked my dad up and took him in the living room, threw him on the couch and told him to stay there. He was so upset he was shaking like a leaf.

I'm going to have to learn to turn off anything that looks like it's going to be dealing with anything like that.
