You're right -- he's just like any other prince, trying to keep himself strong and his rivals weak. Unfortunately that means he doesn't think in the long term, doesn't care about the Sabbat until its too late.

When I say that Jan hinders us I don't mean that he's working for the Sabbat or anything. But he does things to make our lives harder, just because it keeps him in power. Like feeding grounds. Lots of you have got shitty grounds out in the middle of no where. Hard to get there, hard to feed there. In Jan's mind the time it takes you to get to your grounds is time you aren't working against him. Its also time you can't spend fighting the Sabbat. Not to mention the added bonus (to Jan) of keeping all the neonates apart from each other.

That's just one example. The Richard Mason thing is another good example. There's no way Celeste was acting alone. She was just being the tough guy for Jan.
