Are you aware of the excellent biography on your famous relative by CARL SCHLESINGER, of New Jersey? Entitled
"OTTMAR MERGENTHALER" and published by Oak Knoll Books -
I understand it is still availale in either hard cover or paper-back. It includes a facsimile page from the first issue of the "New York Tribune" on July 4, 1886 which included the first lines from the Linotype ever used in a newspaper - Carl invites the reader to attempt to identify which are the Linotype lines in the columns of hand-set type!
