Regarding the Model 48 Linotype machine, yes the model 48 was a British-built machine, made in Altrincham, near Manchester, England. Judging by the number, it was probably late 1950's. If you intend to run the machine, you will need to use matrices with the British strike depth. These are marked with a diamond shape between the point size and the fount reference number.
