In reply to: Dave Drumm 's message, "I love a Linotype" on 19:00:49 01/11/03 Sat

I worked a linotype from 1956 to 1981 in newspapers and books (novels and Non-fiction) When we started the day we had to clean the pot with a wire brush to the plunger and scrape around the pot with a metal device. Cleaning the spacebands with graphite on a board and then you would be ready to go. We had to do 6,000 ens an hour ( 6 -8 galleys 11 on 12pt).
The novels were varied from historical to westerns. I was given a complete manuscript from the blurb to index, other words the complete book.
I think about my job a lot and enjoy going on Dave's Website.

I would like you to reply to this message as soon as you can.

Regards

Frank Netherton
