In the summer of 1956 I was a relief Linotype operator at the Canton (Ill.) Daily Ledger, most of the time running a Model 26 mixer which was the headline/cutline machine. One day as I was standing at the dump waiting for copy Garland Pirres who was the monitor for two TTS-powered robots approached me, complaining he could hardly wait for another worker to vacate the men's restroom. After I acknowledged his dilemma, I felt something hit my shoe, not unlike a dribble. I instantly cocked my fist, but his smile gave him away. He had sureptitiously sprinkled sprue from one of the linecasters on my shoe--he sure had me fooled!
