"What's wrong? Are you all right? Batbot? Hello? Hello? Primus!! No!" Perceptor slammed his fist on the console.

The veteran Autobot had rushed from his patient's side the moment the speakers had crackled, barely having time to react to his 'guest's' wild assumption that an assassination attempt had taken place upon one of the senators. Had he not been distracted first by the arrival of the Council's young human addition, and now by the startlingly terse message from the realm of Ia not from his operative but from the Autobot he had been assigned to accompany, Perceptor might well have questioned Chimpimus' assumption. He could have dismissed it as the mad ramblings of a being who, as Talamac, had teleported in and attacked, forcing him to be caged for a time. But since his change in name and form he had been a surprising help in the repair of Slashclaw, another wild teleporter with unshared secrets of his own. The other possibility was that Talamac, or rather Chimpimus, knew an assassination attempt had occured because he in fact had some involvement in it. Though Perceptor didn't know Talamac had once ambitiously tried to destroy one of their homeworld's former Starbase's, such information would have lessened his trust.

Perceptor was a sharp as he had always been, and his ability to multitask often rivalled his legendary intellect. But between Slashclaw and a body that looked like but couldn't possibly be his former commander, not to mention his scattered peers, he was nearing a breaking point.

"Alex...I do apologize; this certainly isn't the sort of behavior I indulge in or encourage around here, and hardly the first impression I wished to make. All of you, please, forgive me."

"Nothing to forgive, 'scopes. We understand--" began Prowl.

"Prowl...you shouldn't have to. As your leader I have a responsibility not to let my emotions get the better of me. When I was younger, despite some degree of, ah, anxiety, I reined myself in much better. And I am overjoyed that both you and Nova have returned safely. And I am glad Orbital has begun to orient our new recruit. But for every piece we put together, it seems another crumbles away.We are five when we should be eight, and we don't even know where to begin.

Veridian....where can our Vehicon friend be? Darkstar has proven useful with her intel it seems; perhaps we should seek better collaboration with the AOD than our governing bodies have now, eh? She questions Azdak's claims about FawnDoo, as our own Batbot did as well. But as a branch of the government, we must consider the Chief Justice's position; his quarry IS after all a Decepticon war criminal...

Windshear...if only we had the slightest clue as to his whereabouts. I hesitate Prowl to send either you or Nova out into such hostile and unpredictable territory, and yet if anyone could make sense of this barrage of data and conundrums as well as if not better than I, surely it would be Windshear. His processing power rivals my own and is somewhat more, ah, focused, shall we say?

The only one of this body I'm not too concerned about is Spectre...he at least we know is in no danger. I just have a bad feeling something bigger than all of this is on our horizon, something we may need to be as united to face as the senate surely is, if not moreso. They may bicker behind closed doors, but we cannot afford to bicker either in the public eye we dwell in or here in our chambers. Now an opportunity presents itself to recall at least one of our lost, and I shall not let such an opportunity spring to waste!"

Long winded speech(~~and manditory expostion for obvious pinch-hitting writer~~) over, Perceptor now went to work furiously. Alex watched in awe as Imperial Nova, Prowl and Orbital moved in to help where they could. He looked at his hands, his human hands, and yearned to do something to help. Most of them dwarfed him and the console was well above his field of vision. He knew his mind was what would be of value here, and surely the reason Denarius wanted him as a Councilor.

"Yes...that's it....three degrees...backtracking the frequency...no! The signal is weak...Nova, we need a boost to the secondary relay to the auxilliary portal generator...yes, yes that's it....home in on Batbot's lifesigns...why is the signal so weak?! I think we're almost there...almost...come on...come ON!"

Alex and Chimpimus whirled as the room was bathed in light from the far side of where they stood. On his table, the recently reawakened but still weak Slashclaw shielded his eyes. The others continued to work even as a form began to solidify on the platform behind them.

One form.

The question was...whose?
