Date Posted: 18:24:22 12/22/03 Mon In reply to: John 's message, "Pianocorder questions" on 22:51:30 12/18/03 Thu This is only my opinion. Others might see things differently. 1) What is the estimated value of the pianocorder itself? The system originally sold for about $2000 some 25-30 years ago. Current value is probably about what you and the seller think is fair. 2) How good is the quality of the PC-to-cassette music? If you are an accomplished pianist, I think you'd be disappointed with the recording feature. There is a tendency for rapid glissandos to become a blurry mess of overlapping notes because of a "feature" called "frame doubling." It's inherent in the design of the recording board. The "Celebrity Series" of tapes required custom editing equipment and about one day of skilled editing per 45 seconds of music. Only four persons were ever found qualified to do it! 3) how much do tapes cost? New tapes are no longer sold. See Mark Fontana's warning about buying older tapes in his recent post to the forum. One thing that is not obvious: although tapes are approximately 22.5 minutes per side, longer ones were made using custom cassettes which contained extra tape to accommodate the performances.
