Date Posted: 18:53:58 10/27/01 Sat In reply to: Jack M. Conway 's message, "Christmas Pianocorder Tapes?" on 17:42:24 10/24/01 Wed There are several Christmas tapes. "The Spirit of Christmas" (PP-3892) is probably the best, containing transfers of QRS piano rolls arranged by J. Lawrence Cook, Ted Baxter, and others. There is also "A White Christmas" (PP-3893) which has piano roll transfers as well. However, this tape is encoded with karaoke lyrics for the Superscan Display Console (the optional scrolling LED sign), and consequently Marantz slowed the tempos down a lot (too much) to try and make the rolls pass as accompaniments. If you crank up the tempo, these can be pretty decent. Marantz also released "Silent Night" (PP-3894), another Singalong series tape. This one contains traditional Christmas songs played by Eric Hopkins. However, they are literally two-finger arrangements. This tape is not worth purchasing. QRS Music released a few Christmas tapes of its own for the Pianocorder, including "Christmas Sparkle" (QRS Cat #99 113896) played by Jon Weber. They're not quite up to the quality of the Marantz tapes, however... Copies of any of these tapes may be ordered from QRS Music, (716)885-4600.
