Lockdowns and Secures - Some Helpful Hints
Mar 7 2003 1:15PM CST (GMT -06:00)

With the ability to customize and place new homes, many players have been very busy relocating items as they switch residences or redecorate their rooms to match the new theme of their customized house. While doing any kind of redecorating or item relocation, there are a few things that everyone should keep in mind to
lessen the likelihood of misplacing or losing objects
-- some of the items in this list are known issues that we're working on, while the rest is simply good advice for any homeowner.

Things to keep in mind when customizing your home:

When you enter customization mode, all your house add-ons (including Vet Reward add-ons and Early Settler mini-houses) will be re-deeded and moved into your House Moving Crate.
If you commit a new design, or even if you leave customization mode without making any changes, these items will *not* be restored to their previous locations. You will have to manully remove them from the crate and place them back in your house.
(Note: You can get to the House Moving Crate through the House Sign, by choosing "Relocate Moving Crate" from the Customize menu.)

If you enter customization mode while a guildstone is in your house, that
guildstone may be ejected
from the building. If you are the Guildmaster of the guild, you can double-click the guildstone to get a blue teleporter ball. That ball will allow you to replace the stone back inside a house that you own.

When you enter customization mode,
any items in your house that are not add-ons, lockdowns, secures, or vendors will be ejected from the house.
The ejected items will appear under your house sign. Always check this area when you customize, in case something you thought was secure actually wasn't.

Things to keep in mind when redecorating:

It's a good idea to move one item or container around at a time. You should release the item, move it, and then immediately secure or lock it back down.
When locking down items, make sure they say "Locked Down" when you mouse-over them. And keep an eye out for any failure messages when locking down items in your house. Any items that are not properly locked down will decay!
When in doubt, use a secure container instead of a lockdown.

If the shard crashes while you are releasing and re-securing items, carefully double-check everything when the shard comes back up. Remember:
Whenever a shard crashes, it "reverts" a few minutes when it comes back up. So, it may revert to a time when you had just released an item or container. If you do not re-secure that item, it can decay!

Some known issues that we are currently investigating:

In rare circumstances, a guildstone may fall through a house's floor instead of being ejected. If this happens, try double-clicking the stone to get the blue teleporter ball, and then move the stone to another house. If you do not receive a teleporter, then you'll probably need to page a GM for assistance.

If you have a
trash barrel
in your home, there's a possibility that it will be deleted if you customize your home. Because of this, the house will not recognize that it's gone, so you will not be able to place another one without assistance from a GM.

When you lock down a container, some of the items inside that container may not be locked down with it. When this happens, the container may not display the text "Locked Down" when you hover your mouse cursor over it. So recheck the items you think have been locked down. Any item that is properly locked down will display the words "Locked Down" when you mouse-over it. If an item you lock down doesn't display those words, we recommend that you release the item, pick it up, drop it, and then try to lock it down again. If the item refuses to lock down correctly, store it in a secure container until this issue has been resolved.

Currently,
runebooks
cannot be locked down in a house. As a result, if you attempt to lock down a container that contains a runebook, then it is possible that this will cause the other items in that container to not be properly locked down as well. Remove the runebook and refer to issue #3.

After exiting customization mode, when you remove items from the House Moving Crate, some of your containers may still think they are in the crate. When you try to place something in a container like this, it will bark out the message:
"You cannot place items into a house moving crate." To fix the container, pick it up and then drop it back down again.

So whether you're moving into a new home, or just switching out the plants in your customized arboretum, keep in the mind the issues we're currently working on and be sure to pay close attention to the status of your items when locking them down!
