That is very good to hear You have completed the first step Hang in there it's going to be okay. I don't know the type of shot you willbe takin but I would recommend the 1 shot a week. For aboutr 2 months you'll feel crummy, but You will get used to it and realize it's not as bad as you think. I do the 1 shot a week and I don't get sick off of it anymore. And I take 600 mgs Ribavirin a month and I ask my doctor to please gime me phenegran because if you take 2 after your shot you will sleep write through the sickness.

Is one of the easiest to treat. They get close to an 80% clearance rate with just 6 months of treatment. This is wonderful news Theresa. Celebrate!!

There are 2's and 3's who relapse or are non-responders -- but for the most part, 2's and 3's are able to treat half as long [24 weeks] for twice the sustained response rate [80%]. 80% is not 100% but it beats the hell out of rates for the 1's.
These are some of the factors that increase or decrease one's chances of sustained response:
1. Genotype 2 or 3 [the lucky genotypes];
2. low or very low pre-treatment viral load;
3. sex [higher SR rates for females];
4. weight [up the dose a bit if you're large or chubby];
5. pre-treatment condition of the liver [cirrhosis decreases one's chances of SR regardless of genotype -- cirrhotic 2's and 3's may want to consider treating longer than 24 weeks]; and
5. very early clearance of the virus on treatment [SR rates for those who go undetected the first 2-3 weeks of treatment are 95-98%].
Level of compliance with treatment also plays a major role. Drinking or drugging, skipping or delaying dosing because one is having a bad day, taking 'vacations' from treatment for special occasions, etc. all decrease one's chances of SR.

...keeping in mind there are no guarentees for any of us. I know a couple of 2's and 3's with 'perfect profiles' for SR who relapsed. And, I also know a 1b with a 32 million pre-treatment viral load who is a sustained responder. The bottom line is, there is no way to know for sure except cast one's fate to the wind and try it.
Treatment sucks -- but its not as bad for 2's and 3's because: 1) some of us have the option of treating for 24 weeks instead of 48; and 2) knowing our odds are better keeps us hopeful and determined when side effects of treatment start to set in.
I treated 24 weeks in 98-99 and 'had it easy' compared to my friends the 1's.
This is good news.

the more I learn the better I deal good or bad I would rather know what might be coming than plan on all good and get disappointed so I'll look at it this way I have a rather good genotype and good odds but there is always the chance that I will be an oddball lol
of course I really am an odd ball....

hi thresa, Im a 43 year old female , 3a and I had a 2 millon viral load when starting tx 6 months ago, I am now clear and doing 6 more months to try to get a sustained responce. I beleve very much that no matter how crappy I might feel on shot day I shoot anyway and work hard an not missing any riba pills .After all this 6 months of treatment I am very scared of relapsing so am determined to continue treatment as long as I can stand it. I wish you good luck , sugarB

I've heard that extending treatment doesn't really give you a better chance at sustaining your response. What did your doctor say about this?

That's great, you must feel like celebrating T. I'm a 1b, stage 3 bridging fibroser and cirrhotic, found out in November. I am going into my 4th month of tx and am undetected after having viral load in millions, they will do another test in late August and if still undetected will continue for 1 year total because of genotype...I won't go further because extended tx I was told does not give a SVR....soooooooooo the point is you never know, even if I become a non-responder, I will possibly have done my liver good by stopping the progression of cirrhosis and bridging fibrosis (histological instead of virological benefit.)
