Subject: Nope, the doc is missing something...

Susie hit the nail on the head...

Lots of docs are woefully behind the times when it comes to state of the art advice and treatment of this disease. The term 'carrier' has been a bit passe for years...

Either:

1. The doctor is dumber than a box of rocks; or

2. The doctor gave him good information but he's tuning out most of it and 'hearing what he wants to hear' to have an excuse to continue drinking or drugging without having to worry about this; or

3. Diagnosis shocked him and he needs to be in denial for awhile -- but with a bit of gentle help from you and Ron, he will pass through the denial, start reading and educating himself, stand up and start to deal; or

4. He lied to Ron about what the doctor said because he figured Ron would nag him to deal with something [drinking, drugging or having this and dealing with it?] that he doesn't have the strength to deal with right now.

None of us with this disease has 'nothing' to worry about. We all need to 'worry' about taking care of our livers by not drinking or drugging. 'Infected in the last 6-8 months' sounds like recent IV drug use to me.'

Sounds like big time De-Nile [de river in Egypt] to me. Good luck blasting a person who wants to continue to drink or drug or be in denial out of 'de river' when he's bound and determined to swim in it.

And yes, Ron and I both have been on his ass, about facts, about what not to do, about doctors being full of crap (some of them) and on and on. Ron wanted him to go see his doctor but instead he (his friend) weanied out and saw someone else who handed him that bunch of shit. And, he would just love to believe that.
