If you are in a car accident and suffer an injury, you should consult with anattorney. Although most people would like to do the right thing andcompensate your for your injury, it is rarely up to the person which causedthe injury. In fact, it will more than likely be at the discretion of the otherperson's insurance company. In addition, as we all know, insurancecompanies will do everything in their power not to offer compensation for
your injury or offer a settlement to you way below what you would receive
if you had hired a lawyer. If you did not know, insurance companies profit
from this type of under compensation. An experienced car accident or personal injury lawyer will know how to
negotiate with the insurance company, build your case, and take your case
to trial if necessary. It is not advisable for you to meet personally with the
insurance company without your lawyer present. Insurance companies will
do everything they can to take advantage of you and will obtain
statements from you that could jeopardize your case if you should decide
to sue.
Find the right lawyer can be a time consuming and challenging task.
Usually people begin their search when they are in need of one
immediately. A lawyer should be selected for their expertise and
experience in car accident cases. The right lawyer will have experience in
cases such as yours and will be able to take action immediately. The right
lawyer will know what to do immediately without having to ¡°research your
case¡± or check court decisions, as he/she should be familiar with your type
of case. Selecting the right lawyer will save you time and money in the
long run.
Begin your search for your lawyer as soon as possible. A critical deadline
called ¡°statue of limitations¡± and other deadlines may give you a limited
amount of time to take legal action.
Do no rely on advice from friends and family in choosing your lawyer, doing
so will limit your search for the ¡°right lawyer¡±. However, if a family member
or friend can recommend a lawyer that has work experiences in a case
similar to yours, then act on their recommendation and make the
appointment to meet him or her.
The most important factor in selecting your lawyer is that you are
comfortable speaking with him or her and that you feel that a working
relationship can develop. A good working relationship and communication
can be a vital key to the success of your case.

Welcome to AAPNs DSM-IV Discussion Forum -- talyre, 21:36:15 12/07/99 Tue

Hey,

I thought this would be a wonderful avenue for critical discussion about the diagnostic criteria established in the DSM-IV. While the information in the manual is considered to be "law" within the field, there are areas that many feel to be problematic in assessment and diagnosis.

I am open to your choice of topics (ie. disorders). If none are suggested, I will begin the discussions shortly after the new year. The plan is to work through the manual and analyze its utility and accuracy. The application of the criteria may include mock patient analysis. These "patients" may be from any racial, ethnic, or cultural background. It is up to you.

I am very excited about this new venture. I hope you find this new addition thought provoking and useful.

Tammy

Hi tammy,
I've been very busy this semester, but I am glad that things are coming to a close. Well, I am interested in discussing child related disorders, and would be interested in discussing Oppositional Defiant Disorder. I believe we are all aware that the DSM-IV talks about diagnosis, and makes no mention of treatment issues, as such, after a discussion of assessment, maybe there can be a discussion of treatment issues for the discussed disorders. Hope to hear from you soon. Yinka.

[> [> Childhood Disorders/Assessment and Treatment Strategies -- tammy, 11:02:54 12/13/99 Mon

I am very glad to hear that you are almost finished! :-) I do know the feeling. Congratulations!

Discussing various treatment strategies is a very good idea! I will definitely make an attempt to guide the discussion to include assessment and treatment issues. And, childhood disorders would be a great place to start. Look for the discussion to begin shortly after the new year.

Talk to you soon!

Tammy

Dear Tammy,

While I am excited about going through the DSM-IV, I do not have a lot of time. I am completing my dissertation project and working full-time. I plan to graduate this summer. But I believe this forum is extemely beneficial in light of the proposed discussions. Who could say no to talking of the newest"bible" of mental health. Focusing on childhood disorders is one of my interest as I am the Clinical Supervisor for a program working with mothers, babies and children.

I look forward to added to the discussion when I can.

Take care.

Jeannett

dear Tammy
I do voluntary pension advocacy for australian war veterans. My query is. "can the symptons for PTSD or behaviour traits also include a eating disorder." I am doing a widows pension whereby the vet passed away as result of obesity causing diabetics. I was looking for a connection to his military enviroment (mental disorder) that would change his diet and quantity of diet habits that lead to obesity. I am still trying to get a look at the DSM-IV which is recognised as basis in law in our claims system.
thank you.

A gentle reminder: this forum is intended for the discussion of DSM-IV issues. It would be greatly appreciated if we could limit the postings to those topics falling within this particular realm. Thank you for your cooperation.
