Subject: Welcome to AAPNs DSM-IV Discussion Forum

Hey,

I thought this would be a wonderful avenue for critical discussion about the diagnostic criteria established in the DSM-IV. While the information in the manual is considered to be "law" within the field, there are areas that many feel to be problematic in assessment and diagnosis.

I am open to your choice of topics (ie. disorders). If none are suggested, I will begin the discussions shortly after the new year. The plan is to work through the manual and analyze its utility and accuracy. The application of the criteria may include mock patient analysis. These "patients" may be from any racial, ethnic, or cultural background. It is up to you.

I am very excited about this new venture. I hope you find this new addition thought provoking and useful.

Tammy
