I headed into the barn and collected Memento’s tack and grooming equipment, then walking towards his stall. I patted him gently on his head and slipped inside. I gave him a groom and then saddled him up. I led him outside and mounted, walking then trotting him to the cross country course. I spent a few more mins jogging him around until he was all ready to go, getting rid of most of his excitement and making him ready to focus. I started my timer watch and kicked him into a smooth canter. We raced towards the first jump, a simple log of about 4’ and continued on. We cleared the next few jumps smoothly and easily, Memento showing off his natural jumping talent. We slid down the next ditch jump, Memento seemed quite confident and sure of himself, and didn’t even look like loosing his footing. We sped up and continued on our way clearing the next couple of jumps (quite high, about 4’5”) without much difficulty and memento cleared the final jump, a water jump, splashing through the water without a care. We crossed the finish and had completed the 20 jump course in great time. I then trotted him for a while, trying to cool him down, and then walked him back towards the stables. I hosed him down, and turned him out for the afternoon.
