I walked back into the barn, this time bringing my Arabian mare, Crystal outside. I cross tied her in the stable yard and groomed and saddled her. I led her into the outdoor riding ring, and mounted her smoothly. I loved being in the saddle, it felt so normal. I squeezed my calves gently and crystal sprang into a smooth walk. I worked her for a while in a walk, and then I squeezed again, instantaneously she sped into a trot, I sat for a while and then began to post. I encouraged her to work on her collected, extended and working paces, while still keeping them all in the same rhythm. She performed really well. I broke into a canter and I rode easily to this, rocking in time. I had noticed she was having little problems with her transitions now, in comparison to when I first bought her, she was a little ‘burst of speed’ ish then. I spent the next 10 mins working her at this, giving her quite a work out. I halted her and then encouraged her to take several steps backward, which she did quite willingly, however, not in a straight line lol. I then did some leg yielding with her and then slowed her down, to a relaxed walk. I let the reins loose and let her relax her neck. We walked around like this for another 5 mins to cool her down. I dismounted and then hosed her down as she was a little sweaty, and then let her out into the paddock for the day.
