I walked into the stallions barn & over to Muddy's stall. The bay Danish Warmblood liked it when I stoked his muzzle for a second. Then I went to the tack room to grab my jumping tack, helmet, gloves, chaps, 4 dark green colored legwraps & a grooming box.I carried all of that stuff over to a grooming stall, then got Muddy out of his stall & put him in the crossties of the grooming stall. The beautiful stallion relaxed as I brushed him.He was stood still as a put my jumping saddle on him, & accepted the bit willingly when I put on his bridle.
Once done tacking up Muddy, I led him to one of the indoor jumping arenas & quickly lunged him. Then I mounted the bay stallion.I squeezed Muddy into a walk. After walking for a while, I got him to trot.I noticed that the Danish Warmblood had a light, floating trot.I slowed down his trot to see how his collection was, & got him extending his trot, to see how his extension was.Muddy was very good at both extending & collecting his trot. Then I cued Muddy to canter. His canter was easy to sit to, & had lots of impulsion in it.Once I had finished warming up the bay horse on the flat, I dismounted from him, & set up 2 lines of crossrails, & a crossrail on the diagonal, plus some groundpoles. Then I re-mounted Muddy & walked him over the groundpoles. Then I got him trotting over the groundpoles.Next, I walked him over both of the lines of crossrails. Then I trotted & cantered him over the crossrails.
Now it was time to try the corssrail course with him.I got Muddy to canter a courtesy circle, & directed him towards the first jump of the first line of jumps.Muddy easily jumped the small crossrail, clearing it with a foot to spare.I kept him cantering & he then jumped the last crossrail of the line.We continued on to jump the diagonal, which I got Muddy to make a nice turn to, & the second line. Then I took him over the course in the other direction, before dismounting. Now, I set up a single, 2-foot jump.I mounted Muddy & rode him over to the jump.I let him sniff the jump, before walking him away from the small jump, & getting him to go into a slow trot.I trotted Muddy up to the jump, then gave him a squeeze.Muddy took off over the jump.I kept Muddy at a trot after he jumped the 2-foot fence.Muddy had jumped excellently, & was very good, so I walked him out, & then dismounted.I led Muddy back to his stall & untacked him. Then I gave the bay stallion a quick grooming, before putting on blanket, boots & his brand new, engraved leather halter. Then I clipped a lead rope to Muddy's halter & led him outside of his stall & to a private paddock, near the stallions barn. This was going to be Muddy's first time in a paddock at Timeless Farm, so I had wanted the paddock to be near the barn.I led Muddy into his new paddock & unclipped the lead rope from his halter.Muddy stood still for a second, before taking off, & bucking, working off his high spirits.I closed the gate behind me as I walked out of the paddock.I leaned on the gate, watching Muddy, whi was now rolling in the grass.Eventually, Muddy settled down & started grazing on whatr was left of the grass in the paddock, since it was almost winter.Muddy was fine with his paddock, so I walked back to the barn office. It was nice, & warm inside the barn office, besides being very clean(for a barn office!)I went over to my desk. There were papers scattered all over the desk.I picked up the mail which someone had brought in.It was a few bills for the barn, a invitation to a grand prix show up at a place called Maple Tree Stables & a letter from the AHSA.I opened the letter.Inside, was a message that said that Miss Congeniality & Fireworks had qualified for the national horse show in Washington D.C. Calypso & The Winning Touch had already been qualified for the national, but unfortunatly, Miss Demeanor had hurt herself at the show where the zone points she got would qualify her, so Miss D. did not get into the Washington D.C national. This was very good news, because it meant that almost all of my grand prix jumping warmbloods had qualified for the national show.I put the letters back on my desk.Just then, Arianna ran into the barn office, panting."Mom..." she said, "Duchess...is having...her foal down in the broodmares barn!" I jumped up & followed Arianna at a run down to the broodmares barn.Inside, Duchess, a Dutch Warmblood mare of mine, was having her foal.I saw Alex, Joey, Jasmine, Jewel & Jennie standing a little ways away from Duchess' foaling stall.Jonathan & Darci were sitting on a haybale that was little ways away from the stall."How is she doing?" I asked Alex.He said "she's doing ok, the foals coming out head first, except I'm suprised she's having her foal during the day, even if it is late in the morning." I nodded.I quickly ran to the supplies room of the barn & grabbed my basic foaling kit.I hurried back to where everyone was standing.By this time, you could see the tiny foals head peeking out.Duchess had been bred to my Dutch Warmblood colt, Livin' Large, so I wasn't suprised that the colt was a chestnut colored one.Once the foal was completely out, Duchess got up.She walked over to the tiny foal & started cleaning it with her tounge.a little while later, I went inside the stall, & tokk care of all of the birthing stuff it needed. Then i hurried back out of the stall.the foal tried getting up.It managed to stand, but wobbled, & fell back down. However, the foal was very healthy, & tried getting up again. This time, it succeeded. The little foal took its first, wobbly step in the direction if its mother.Duchess whickered her encouragement to the foal. Finally, the foal reached its mother & started suckling.I watched the cute little colt, as he suckled. What should I name him, I thought. "Wow," said Jennie, "he's a really bright chestnut." Jonathan looked at the foal & said "look at that teensy, cute little star on his forehead. It looks almost like a triangle." I thought for a second, then an idea popped into my head."How about we call him Brightangle, but just Brighty for short?" Jasmine said "I like that name." "Sounds cool," said Arianna."I like the name Brightangle to," said Alex.Everyone liked the name, so it was decided, that the bright chestnut foals name would be Brightangle...
