I walked into Shining Meadow Stables @ 6:30 A.M and found Pirate's Stall. I found the best tack in the tack room, and put it on a hook to be ready to tack SP up. I walked into SP's stall and brushed him down with a curry comb, and a soft brush. Then, I carefully added the tack on his back, and slipped his halter on. In place of the halter, I put the bridle, and made sure everythin was corrct and secure. After I had done that, I walked him out of the stall, and into SMS's arena. When we were in the middle, I tightened the girth so the saddle wouldn't fall off. I walked him around a few times, so that I could make sure it was tight. Then, I measured my stirrupes and brought them down to the right height. As, I mounted SP, Josie walked into the arena, sitting on one of the chairs to the side. "Hey Mom!" she said. "I'm gonna watch you, so I can be a better rider!" I let Josie watch me, since she was just beggining to ride. The more SP and I walked around the arena, the more he bobbed his head. He wanted to go faster, into a trot. I shortened up my reigns and let him trot. As I posted up and down, SP focused on high stepping, and getting areound the arena quickly. I laughed to myself, because I found this quite funny. SP ws still going round and round with energy when I was all tired out. I felt like I couldn't post another beat, so I halted him, shortening up my reigns. Pirate halted where I wanted him, and when I wanted him to. I felt so proud of him and myself! So I knew that he deserved a treat after the ride. When I caught my breath, and SP was once again bobbing his head up and down, I shotened up the reigns again, and let him trot. This time, I didn't post. I sat deep in the saddle, doing a posting trot. Pirate didn't seem to like it at all. When we got at a certain point, he jumped up in the air, causing me to freak out. I almosy screamed, but then knew that I shouldn't around the horses. So instead, I went up into a 2-point position so he woudn't know I was barely on him. Finally I thought it was times to rest. I shortned up again, and tugged gently on the reigns. Pirate walked, and slowly trudged along. After we were both ready again, I thoguht it was time. I urged SP into a canter, and slowly went around the arena. SP was thinkin that he was gettin a break. I thought this was funny, and laughed again. I went back down into a walk. Pirate would never canter with me on him.....Unless....."Josie hand me a crop!" I called. Josie cautiosly picked a crop from the shelf and handed it to me. I smack SP with the crop, and he knew immidiatly that he had to go. "I'm goin I'm goin'! he seemed to say. I bounced and bumped around in the saddle as he went around the arena several times. I was going to try something now. I really shortened up this time, and pulled back. SP halted and turned around like I directed. I warmed him up over some caveletis. Then we jumped over some Xs and double oxers. When we were done, I dismounted him and led him to his stall again. I brushed him down well, and then gave him an apple to congradulate him. I closed and locked his stall, and left the stables.
