"Hi cutie!" I said to Lovebird. The bay Hanoverian mare nudged my shoulder with her nose, & then sniffed my hair.Lovebird has messed up my hair, so I quickly put it back into a bun & clipped a lead rope to Lovebird's leather halter.I led the bay mare from the pasture, to her stall in the mares stable.Lovebird knew she was going to be ridden today, & pranced with excitement as I led her into her large stall.I clipped a chain that was attached to the wall to Lovebirds halter, & the well trained mare stayed still.I quickly groomed her shiny bay coat, & tacked her up with a jumping saddle, bridle & a raised standing martingale. After leading Lovebird to the indoor jumping arena and lunging her, I mounted the 16 hand bay horse.Lovebird went into a dressage frame very quickly, but I got her to go into a hunter frame.A few groundpoles, some x-rails & a 2 foot jump were set up in the arena.I warmed up Lovebird, & trotted her over a few groundpoles.Lovebird looked great over them, & extended her stride, keeping it after she had trotted the groundpoles.I squeezed her into a canter, & jumped her over a 1'-6" crossrail.Lovebird jumped the crossrail with a foot to spare. When not in dressage frame, Lovebird was very speedy.I had also noticed, free lunging her, that she jumped with one knee higher than the other, so she wasn't the type of horse to be a hunter.I was sure that she would make a excellent jumping horse. She had olympic bloodlines for both jumping & dressage in her.She didn't have as good of bloodlines as Calypso or Miss Congeniality did, but she came in very close. Her great-great-grandsire was also Calypso's.There great-great-grandsire was a Holsteiner, but he was registered as a Hanoverian also, so he could also be bred to Hanoverian mares.I jumped Lovebird over the x-rail a few more times, & then jumped her over a line of crossrails.Lovebird took the jumps easily, but she sped through the line, in 5 strides, instead of 7 strides.I jumped her over the line again, & this time got her to slow down so she did the line in 7 canter strides. Then I cantered her to the 2 foot vertical.Lovebird leaped over it.I used a long release as she jumped, because she had such a comfortable jump & stride. The bay Hanoverian mare was good over the 2 foot vertical, so I decided to end a good note with the green(meaning starting to be trained, or not fully trained, not the color) mare.I walked her out, & then led her back to her stall, untacked her & turned the bay mare out in the pasture with a few other mares. Then I walked back up to the barn to put away the lead rope I was carrying.
